Chores: Tic-Tac-Toe Style!

Picking up his cars that somehow end up EVERYWHERE!
I am sooooooo not a morning person!  After I roll outta bed in the morning, let me get a cup of coffee and let me be!  I know, I know... not very virtuous...   Tyler is the exact opposite; he is ready to rock n' roll in the mornings!  While the first part of my mornings consist of nursing Abby, checking blogs I follow, and sipping my coffee, I let Tyler watch a little t.v.  But honestly because the kitchen is usually still messy from the night before, toys are scattered on the floor, and are beds are a mess... I tend to sit longer than I should!  The longer I sit, the more I don't want to get up!  And the longer that we are all sitting, the crankier we all become!

So... now that I made myself sound so horrible and lazy, I'll tell you how I plan on changing that!  In an effort to get our mornings started right, I created a Tic-Tac-Toe "Chore/ Responsibility" Chart for Tyler ; ) While he is completing his chores, I do mine.  It's a win-win!  Then I feel somewhat accomplished when I sit down at the computer!

I made a 3x3 chart and in each square is something that Tyler usually does everyday anyways...  The point is to get something done in the mornings so I don't feel we have wasted part of our morning waiting for me to wake up!  In order for Tyler to watch a morning show, he needs to complete 3 tasks in a row-- Tic-Tac- Toe!  Tasks that Tyler can choose from are: complete some schoolwork, vacuum, make bed, take a shower, empty dishwasher, organize his bookshelf, pick up cars/ trains, put away any clothes on the floor, and my favorite, Mom's Pick!

The concept is only a couple days old, but Tyler looks forward to crossing off three chores!  Perhaps the new will wear off, but it's working... so I'm sticking with it!

  8. This is a great idea! I need to get chores going for my kiddo. We were doing great for awhile and then I slacked off on holding him responsible for his chores. I may try your tic-tac-toe chart.

  12. Great idea! My little one isn't old enough yet, but maybe I'll do it for myself, so I can motivate myself to exercise, do the laundry and clean the dishes before plopping down in front of the tv!

  13. This is GENIUS to make chores a game. I really like how you make the TV show a reward. I really need to reign in my little ones' excessive tv watching. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing with the Kids Co-Op this week!

  31. Just found this on Pinterest. What a great idea. I'm going to be creating one as well and instilling a little healthy competition between my girls on who can get three in a row first. Plus this way all their chores will be getting done! Thanks for helping me be a sneaky mom. :D
