Identity Crisis! Help!

Please help me... I need your input!  I'm going through a "mid-blogging" crisis ; )  When I started this blog in August, it was my intent to just blog about our homeschooling journey and all Tyler is learning and doing in school.  However, in the past few months I've "spread my wings" so to speak and have blogged a few recipes and craft ideas.  I love sharing about Tyler's school happenings, but I also have found I love sharing the craft projects I have found time to complete...  I have always enjoyed crafting and find it is my "outlet!"  So, the big question is:

Should I change my blog name to better suit all that I am writing about??  I don't want to confuse the readers that I have or will have, but I feel weird blogging about anything other than school because of my blog name!!  Am I crazy?!  I won't be sharing crafts and recipes more than school stuff so that is where I am torn.

Should my blog name be more general?

I find myself needing to change things up every once and a while....  I have already changed my blogs background!  And who knows what will change next!  Lol!  I don't do it so much now with two littles, but I was changing our furniture around every few months for "something new!"  I was the same way when I was younger, my mom would come home to find my room outside in the hall as I was changing things up... again!

I would love your insight!  For those that have decided to follow because of the crafts I've blogged about... does my blog title throw you off?  And for those that have followed because I am sharing snippets of our homeschooling journey, are you thrown off by my craft posts?

...Okay, so you get the point!

What should I do?!!!

  1. I think your name is cute. There are so many names out there and I find what interests me is the content, not the name. Besides, crafts and recipes could be categorized into the school time snippets blog. I believe it's what you make it. I hope that helps a bit. www.thenymelrosefamily.blogspot.com

  2. I totally understand your dilemma. I often have the same thoughts about my blog too. I like what the reader before me stated, its the content not the name that most readers are drawn to. Under your title you could tell your readers what your blog contains... Homeschooling, crafting and family life etc? Just my thoughts. You have to do what you like best. Good Luck!

  3. I was leaning towards changing, but I agree with Christine. Include a subtitle, and you're set. :)

  4. Home education is holistic so why not include some of the other things going on at your home. May be a subtitle too. I have similar thoughts about my blog.

  5. I like the idea of a subtitle too. :) A lot of homeschool blogs blog about life - homeschool IS life!

I do understand your dilemma. As for me, I keep my homeschool blog school related and I have a personal blog to share our life. :)

  6. My cousin's wife started blogging 5 years ago about their adoption journey, so she named her blog accordingly. She also has a HUUUUUUUGE interest in home decor and repurposing, so when she found she was blogging quite a bit about home decor, she started a separate blog. You could possibly do that and then periodically refer readers back and forth between your two blogs.

That being said, if you don't find yourself wanting to blog regularly about non-homeschooling things, I really like the subtitle idea. School Time Snippets: My Life As A Teacher, Crafter & Home Chef. Something like that. :-) Good Luck with your dilemma!!!!

  7. I understand your dilemma. I have been there. I first started our family blog about a year and a half ago, but I wanted to share more than just our family adventures. So I started three other blogs. However, it was a lot of work to keep up with all four of them and it became very time consuming. So during Thanksgiving I transitioned to one blog name and put everything under one blog name. It is much easier to keep up with the one combined blog than it was keeping up with the several seperate ones. Also, during this process I changed some of my blog names a couple of times. As long as you let people know what you are doing, it will work out. Good Luck! Also thank you for stopping by my blog.

  8. I agree with Vicki (above). If you're not going to post about crafts (etc.) more than a couple of times a month then I'd keep it just like it is. But if you really want to go crazy with the craft posts make a separate blog for that. Like also mentioned above, homeschool is life and there isn't much that you do that doesn't involve the kids in some way (either something with them or for them). I love your blog =) So I'd say don't change a thing content wise! I'd work on your header, though, to include pictures and a maybe subtitle like others mentioned would be neat. Those are my thoughts! I love hope a blog is always a work in progress. Good luck!

  9. If you need a change perhaps make the background or overall look of your blog reflect your inner craftiness? I too moved my furniture around all the time as a child. I must admit I also do it as an adult (although in my opinion not that often, perhaps once every 6-12 months and yes I always get that head shake from my husband but he just rolls with it now after all of these years of marriage). I ALWAYS get comments from family when they come to our house "Ok, so what did you move now?" LOL. I enjoy all of your posts. Please just know that everyone's blog is a work in progress. Even the blogs that are well established you can noticed things changing and moving every so often. Make this blog make you smile every time you see it or work on it and then you know you are on the right path.
